Bright lights

I traveled to the city where they said the bright lights were

Guitar upon my back and a fiver in my shirt

My jeans were damp my hands were cold the road was long and hard

You’ll never know how pleased I was to see those lights at last

Bright lights lead me on and on Bright lights lead me on

I tried to keep my spirits high with hopes that I’d succeed

To raise myself to stardom I would beg on bended knees

The thought I could be on TV perhaps a nominee

In a plush hotel in Mayfair  receive my first Grammy

Bright lights lead me on and on Bright lights lead me on

I was surprised to find one day the lights no longer shone

With a hole in my pocket two foot deep and all my money gone

The answer to the question that was spinning in my head

Pack up your bags forget the lights and go back home instead

Bright lights lead me on and on Bright lights lead me on

Wheel of fortune

It’s nearly the end of the summer

And the long dark nights close in

The leaves on the trees are falling

And the birds no longer sing

The morning mists do shimmer

From the glens where the heather grows

And high in the sky where the mountain crags lie

There’s already a carpet of snow

There's already a carpet of snow

It’s the wheel of fortune that’s brought me here

Like a seed I trust I will grow

My life is a secret solitude

To some who look from outside

They have the towns and the bright lights

And they think I have something to hide

But I'm at one in this wilderness

A landscape that suits me so well

And while you all run to your nine to five

It's here my heart must dwell

It's here my heart must dwell

The waterwheel

As a child I can remember
Men used to plough the fields
That stretched out far and wide from our front door
There was an orchard down the lane
Where we’d play with daisy chains
And by the stream - The waterwheel turned round
With the setting of the sun
We’d hear the church bells peel
And watch a horse and cart or two pass by
We would stroll down country lanes
And join in village games
And by the stream - The waterwheel turned round

Then one day on the horizon
A chimney did appear
Smoke pouring forth and up into the sky
But to us it didn’t matter
It didn’t stop birds chatter
And by the stream - The waterwheel turned round
As I grew a little older
And the chimneys multiplied
Tall buildings did rise up on our sky line
But to us it didn’t matter
It didn’t stop birds chatter
And by the stream - The waterwheel turned round

Looking out my window
One morning I recall
Machinery advanced and trees did fall
Even though it didn’t matter
It didn’t stop birds chatter
And by the stream - The waterwheel turned round
There’s a supermarket now
A library and town hall
That stretches far and wide from our front door
There’s no orchard down the lane
Only busy passing trains
And by the stream - The waterwheel turns no more

They use the word advancement
A way to a better life
By turning grass into concrete slabs
I’m sure that can’t be right
Even though we watched it happen
There was little that we could do
Who cared about the fact we cried
The day the waterwheel died

Loch Coruisk

As the piper played the tune
And the sun danced with the moon
We walked the shores of Loch Coruisk
Hand in hand together

As the piper played the tune
And the sun became the moon
The stars that night shone clear and bright
I fell in love with you
I fell in love with you

Love you

Evensong

As the evening sun sets to the west

And the stars they rise from the east

A stillness in the air abides

All creatures rest in peace

A distant rumble it echoes out

Of thunder so it seems

But no tis man on life's crusade

Destroying all the trees

The falcons song

The falcon soars her wings held high on the winds that have brought her home

From the gray and stormy clouds above the rain begins to fall

It beats upon her aching back like stones thrown at a wall

“I know I’m here but there again I’m not at home at all”

It’s a sad sad world this world we call so free

If only I could speak in words of all the things I see

For now I’m just a moments stand an empty space the next

But bury me at the top my friends

Of the new concrete complex

The wide green fields the wooded cops the stream that runs so clear

It’s all I have to start again with the young I have to rear

It is my life my every breath my hopes and all my fears

But man has gone and once again turned beauty into tears.

How can the need to justify such torment to the land

Exist within the human race without a thought to me

The pleasures that they say they bring is falsehood to extreme

While man grows strong the fields grow weak then next - No more of me

Birth Day Blues

I’m on a Rolla coaster that’s heading for a world
That I don’t know and cannot comprehend
I feel what I feel even though it seems unreal
I’m here until I reach my journeys end

I’m on a Rolla coaster that’s driving me insane
Can’t see where I’m going don’t even know my name

I’ve got those birth day blues
Those god damn birth day blues

I don’t wanna see what’s out there I wanna stay in here
Where peace and love surround me everywhere
A funny situation it’s a strange sensation
I feel as if I’m flying on a prayer

I’m on a Rolla coaster heading for the sky
Hearing conversations this little bird must fly

I’m on a Rolla coaster that’s heading for a world
My minds complete but full of emptiness
I feel what I feel Eeven though it seems unreal
I’m here until I reach my journey end

I’m on a Rolla coaster that’s driving me insane
Can’t see where I’m going don’t even know my name

The rock

You are the one who leads where I follow

You are the one who puts every thing right

You are the one who will cover me

When the rains come and the waters they flow over me

I am the one who walks in your shadow

I am the one who keeps stumbling round

Constantly turning away from you

You turn around and forgive me for all that I do

You are the sea and I am a river

You are the rock and I'm only a stone

Destined to find where we all should be

Joining the stars for a place in eternity

Halls Of Fame

I walk within these halls of fame and look upon your name
I see the light within your eyes and hear you call my name
Even though it was a long time ago it seems like yesterday
When we laughed and sang as only young can
In fields of green and yellow

We flew so high on wings of steel through snowy clouds of white
And saw the world with eyes of awe the wonder of that sight
Every thing was new and the time was right any thing was possible
And we walked with heads that were held so high
On the shoulders of pure innocence

We touched the sky and wondered why the world it looked so small
We took the pace and ran the race and never took a fall
If you don’t look back you will never lack all the courage you must take
For it seems to me in your eyes I see
All the truth is staring back at me

Shine on

She is the one who can turn me around

No one like you puts my feet on the ground

Star in the sky watching over me - Shine on

And when I’m lost you help me to see making it easy for me

O' that star in the sky Shine on - Shine on

Always so close like a pure summers breeze

You are the one you’re the air that I breath

Star in the sky watching over me - Shine on

Echo’s my voice every whisper and thought

All of my doubts they are silently caught

O' that star in the sky Shine on - Shine on

Memories remain in the mirror I see

Reflections of you who will watch over me

Star in the sky watching over me - Shine on

I turn to you every step of the way

You guide me through to the end of my day

O' that star in the sky Shine on - Shine on
